PhD Opportunity

Postgraduate Scholarship in the Synthesis and Application of Smart and Responsive Bio-inspired Hierarchical Materials.

Deadline for Applications: 6th February 2018

A funded PhD position is available in our group. The aim of this project is to use a bottom-up approach in order to prepare stimuli responsive hierarchical structures and novel smart materials. The project will involve the rational design and synthesis of small molecules which will form the building blocks of self-assembling supramolecular constructs. Following preparation, these constructs will require analytical characterisation. The successful candidate will develop a deep understanding of multi-step synthetic chemistry and will gain experience in a wide range of experimental and analytical techniques.

This PhD Studentship is due to start in September-October 2018.

Applicants should have or expect to obtain a first or upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a related subject. Applicants must have a strong interest in synthetic organic chemistry. Previous working knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry is highly desirable, but not essential.
