Development of Supramolecular Self-Assembling Responsive Biopolymers

A number of projects at Masters level are available in the field of supramolecular organic chemistry in the group of Dr Aniello Palma:

This project involves exploring the potential of bio-inspired polymers as supramolecular building blocks. Using molecular recognition and self-assembly processes, we are aiming to synthesise complex and functional structures and novel materials of extended or discrete sizes. The student working on this project will focus on the synthesis and characterization of stimuli responsive chiral metalorganic cavities with applications in metallo- and organo-catalysis.

The successful candidates will be based at the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus, and will work under the supervision of Dr Aniello Palma. In joining our team you will develop a deep understanding of multi-step synthetic chemistry and will gain experience in a wide range of experimental and analytical techniques.

Entry requirements and fees: Applicants should have/expect to obtain, a first or upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a related subject. This is a self-funded position and candidates will be liable for tuition fees at the standard rate (£4,327 for UK/EU candidates).
